Speechify Pricing: What $139 a Year Really Buys You
Pricing read from the live Speechify pages on 2026-10-27. Ratings gathered from five public platforms.
Summary
Speechify pricing in 2026 comes down to one choice. Premium is $29 a month or about $139 a year, so the monthly plan only makes sense for a trial of under five months. Studio, the voiceover tool, is a separate subscription from $100 a year, and the developer API starts free. Trustpilot scores it 4.7 out of 5, yet billing and renewals dominate the complaints. For a heavy daily reader it is fair value. For an occasional listener, it is not.
Speechify Premium costs $29 a month or about $139 a year, a 60% gap that decides everything. Reviewers rate it 4.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot and the App Store, but billing and cancellation draw most of the complaints. Good value for people who listen daily, poor value for occasional readers.

- Reader and Studio are separate subscriptions, so one plan does not cover both.

This is a desk review, and we say so up front. On 2026-10-27 we read the Speechify Reader pricing page, the Studio pricing page and the developer API pricing page, and took first-party screenshots of them. We then collected ratings and volumes from Trustpilot, G2, Capterra, Product Hunt and the Apple App Store, and read a Reddit thread and two independent reviews for recurring themes. We did not benchmark voice quality ourselves. Where we describe quality, we cite what reviewers report. The cost figures are our own arithmetic on published list prices, and each one is labelled as such. The yearly Premium price comes from the App Store listing ($139.99) and an independent review ($139), because the live page we captured showed the monthly toggle.
Should you pay for Speechify?
YES if you...
- You listen for at least 30 minutes most days, so the yearly plan costs under $0.80 an hour.
- Reading is slow for you because of dyslexia or ADHD, and highlighted word-by-word audio helps.
- You clear a long reading queue while commuting, walking or washing up.
- You want one app across Chrome, iPhone, Android and desktop with synced position.
NO if you...
- You listen once or twice a week, where the free plan or built-in read-aloud may be enough.
- You want a voiceover for videos and expect the Reader plan to cover it, because Studio is separate.
- You dislike auto-renewing annual charges and have been burned by a free trial before.
- You need short summaries of links rather than audio, which is a different tool and a different price.

Hidden costs & gotchas
- Billing monthly costs $348 a year, $209 more than the yearly plan.
- Studio credits are spent on every new generation, including pitch, speed and emotion changes. Only volume tweaks and re-exports are free.
- Reader, Studio and the API are billed separately: one subscription does not include the others.
- The Simba 3.5 API launch price ($10, $8 and $6 per million characters) runs until 21 November 2026, then the list price doubles.
- One independent review reports a 150,000-word monthly cap on Premium voice usage that the pricing page does not state. We could not confirm it with Speechify.

Pros and cons
Pros
- Yearly Premium is cheap per hour for daily listeners At $139 a year and 30 minutes a day, the cost is about $0.76 per listening hour, our arithmetic.
- Support gets praised by name on Trustpilot Many recent reviewers thank individual agents for fast refunds and cancellations. Speechify says it replies to 91% of negative reviews.
- Wide platform coverage with synced position Chrome, iOS, Android, Mac and Windows apps exist, and reviewers highlight picking up where they left off.
- Accessibility reputation Speechify says it won a 2025 Apple Design Award, and independent reviewers rate the word highlighting highly for dyslexia and ADHD.
Cons
- Free trials and renewals generate a steady stream of complaints Recent Trustpilot reviews describe card charges after a trial, a $158 yearly charge, and cancellations that did not stop billing. An independent review notes an F rating from the Better Business Bureau, which we did not verify.
- Monthly billing is priced to push you toward the yearly plan $348 against $139 is a 60% gap. The yearly plan needs a full upfront payment and a refund conversation if you change your mind.
- Three separate products make the price harder to read A Reader subscription does not include Studio or the API. Comparing plans means opening three pricing pages.
- The free plan is a weak preview of the paid voices Independent reviewers say the free voices sound noticeably more synthetic, so the free tier does not show you what Premium sounds like.
Final verdict
Speechify is priced for people who listen every day. At about $139 a year, a reader who listens for half an hour daily pays under a dollar an hour, and that is hard to beat for a polished, synced app on every device. If you listen once a week, the same $139 is poor value, and the free plan or the read-aloud already built into your phone and browser will do most of the job.
The price is not the real risk. The risk is the way it is collected. The monthly plan is $348 a year in disguise, the yearly plan is an upfront charge, and recent Trustpilot reviews keep describing charges after trials and cancellations. Subscribe through the App Store if you can, put a reminder in your calendar before the trial ends, and treat the first week as the real test.
For readers of this site there is a second question. If your problem is a queue of 400 saved links, audio helps you get through them, but it does not shorten them. A 150-word summary does that. Speechify reads the whole page aloud, which is a different job at a different price. Pay for it if listening is how you want to read, not as a way to avoid reading.
- Voices (as reviewers report) 7.5/10 Premium voices praised, free voices called synthetic
- Pricing clarity 5.5/10 Three products, two billing cycles
- Value for daily listeners 7.5/10 About $0.76 an hour at 30 minutes a day
- Value for casual readers 4/10 $139 is a lot for occasional use
- Billing and support 5.5/10 Fast refunds praised, renewal complaints persist
